Hancock Math Team’s second City of Chicago Math League competition

Last Saturday was the Hancock Math Team’s second City of Chicago Math League competition. Though we may not YET be in the overall number one spot, we are still very much in the running by tying for 5th place (out of 11 schools in Division B)…only a miniscule ten points behind 4th place Solorio!

Our Algebra 1 mathletes did a fine job by keeping us in the Division B Algebra 1 4th place.  Freshman Kanavdeep Singh earned another amazing 3rd place finish cumulatively (2nd place in Contest 2!) with Gabriel Silva not far behind in 10th (6th place in Contest 2).

Our Geometry team is standing strong in the Division B Geometry 3rd place. Sophomore Alondra Martinez scored another 4th place finish cumulatively (AND in Contest 2!) while her fellow mathletes Zair Bravo, Ian Portales and Rochelle Raya landed in 6th, 7th and 9th places in Contest 2.

Meanwhile, our Algebra 2 team is in a virtual tie for 4th place with Amundsen and Senn. Junior Jakub Morawa isn’t letting go of the cumulative Number 1 spot (AND 1st in Contest 2!) with fellow junior Axel Oliva taking 10th and Aileen Guillen 12th in Contest 2.

Finally, our Pre-Calculus team in 6th is a mere 10 points behind its nearest competitor Kenwood. Senior Miguel Rocha is showing his mathematical might by claiming the 3rd place berth cumulatively (AND 3rd in Contest 2!) with fellow seniors Danna F. and Valeria Leos in 9th, Noemi Medina and Anabel Perez in 12th and Cecilia Armendariz in 14th in Contest 2.

Overall, Hancock is doing a fantastic job at keeping the pressure on its rivals in this 2nd meet of the 2025-26 season. The next time you see one of our hard-working mathletes, be sure to give them a huge PI-five as they walk down our Hancock hallways calculating slopes and vertices.
