Bonjour et bienvenue dans la classe de Français !
Je m’appelle Madame Phillips. By learning French you are connecting to a global community of over 300 million people in 54 countries across the world on 6 different continents. Studying French will broaden your horizons personally, academically, and professionally. Throughout the course, you will see how French can open doors for you, provide you with opportunities for enrichment, and allow you to connect with people from all over the world, beginning with our classroom exchange with French and Belgian high schools! Did you know that studying French enhances critical thinking and problem solving skills while stimulating brain function and memory? Or that one out of three words in English has been borrowed from French; students studying French show improved scores on comprehension of reading texts and vocabulary on standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, GRE, and LSAT. In French class, we explore the culture of the French-speaking world while learning the language. We celebrate Mardi Gras and make masks, we cook and eat French cuisine, we listen to French music, and watch French films. We play games, and we always have fun and laugh! What are you waiting for? - Amy Phillips earned her Bachelor of Arts in French with a minor in Business Administration and Marketing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she did a year abroad program at the Sorbonne Paris IV, after which she received a Diplôme de la Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie Française. She subsequently earned her Master of Arts in Teaching at National Louis University and a Master of Arts in Literacy Education at Northeastern Illinois University. Amy has taught French at Hancock College Prep since 2008. She is the sponsor of Hancock’s Société Honoraire de Français and Eagles International Club. She has led international trips to France and elsewhere abroad since 2010. She has organized a penpal exchange for her students to give them a real-world motivation to practice their French. She has been working to establish an exchange program at her school, and her school hosted their first French exchange student in February 2020, just before the pandemic. Her first student studied in France in June 2022. She is an active member of the AATF. She was the fortunate recipient of the 2019 AATF Summer Scholarship to France offered by the French Embassy.
