Hancock Math Team Shines with Top Finishes in First Citywide Competition of the Season

Last Saturday was the Hancock Math Team’s first City of Chicago Math League competition. And though we may not have trounced the competition, we made our presence known by landing in the Division B Cumulative 4th place behind competing schools two and three times larger!

Our Algebra 1 mathletes did a fine job by putting us in the Division B Algebra 1 4th place.  Freshman Kanavdeep Singh earned an amazing 3rd place finish, with Gabriel Silva not far behind in 6th and Anely Tovalin in 8th.

Our Geometry team one-upped their freshman teammates by sliding into the Division B Geometry 3rd place. Sophomore Alondra Martinez scored a 4th place finish while her fellow mathletes Ingry Martinez slid into 5th and Citlalli Gonzalez into 8th.

Meanwhile, our Algebra 2 team twinned with Geometry by landing the Division B Algebra 2 3rd place as well. Junior Jakub Morawa continued his stellar hitting streak by securing the Number 1 spot with fellow juniors Axel Oliva, Ronin Hernandez-Figueroa, and Aileen Guillen securing the 7th, 10th, and 11th spots, respectively.

Finally, our Pre-Calculus team held their own with Miguel Rocha finishing 5th, Alfredo Garcia-Banuelos 8th, and Noemi Medina 10th.

Overall, Hancock made a strong start here at the beginning of the 2025-26 season. The next time you see one of our hard-working mathletes, be sure to give them a huge PI-five as they walk down our Hancock hallways calculating square roots and derivatives.
