Course Description
The course begins with a review of essential Spanish I skills in preparation for our Spanish III Honors. Level of instruction assumes a basic knowledge of grammar concepts and vocabulary introduced in Spanish I. Emphasis is on communicating in Spanish through speaking, listening, reading, and writing in various aspects of time. Students also study Hispanic culture, geography, and history.Students will participate in individual, paired, and group activities as well as complete written and oral exercises to practice new vocabulary and grammar concepts. Students will also write papers on an assigned topic in Spanish and demonstrate speaking and listening proficiency.
Spanish III is an in-depth course that will review and study many of the same topics presented in Spanish I and II, but to a greater degree. Speaking, writing, and reading skills will expand as you are challenged with the language. You will continue to study Hispanic culture and traditions, and will have the opportunity to make presentations about the culture. You will be introduced to higher level vocabulary, newspaper and magazine articles from Spain and Latin America. You will also be introduced to the works of some of the major writers of the Spanish-speaking world. At all times, the primary focus will be to increase your ability to communicate in Spanish with ease and confidence.
Students will build on basic vocabulary, pronunciation and grammatical structures learned inlevel 1 and level 2 to expand their ability to communicate in Spanish. Students will listen, read and interpret Spanish as it is used to communicate on a variety of topics such as personal traits and relationships, the home and neighborhood, clothing and shopping, food and cooking, as well as its modern diversity, health and personal hygiene, and travel, etc. Students will be challenged to produce Spanish language through a variety of speaking and writing activities and projects.
