Course Description

Thcourse beginwith a revieof essentiaSpanish I and II skills in preparation for our Spanish Dual Credit (Spanish 101-102) / Spanish for Heritage Speakers 1Level of instruction assumes a basic knowledgof grammar concepts anvocabulary introduced in Spanish I and II. Emphasis is ocommunicating in Spanish through speaking, listening, reading, and writing invarious aspects of time. Students also study Hispanic culturegeographyand history.Students will participate in individual, paired, and grouactivities as well as complete written andoral exercises to practicnew vocabulary and grammar concepts. Students will also write papers on an assigned topic in Spanish and demonstrate speaking and listening proficiency.

 

Spanish III is an in-depth course that will review anstudmanothe same topics presented in Spanish I and II, but to a greater degreeSpeaking, writinganreading skillwill expand asyou are challengewith thlanguage. You wilcontinutstudy Hispaniculture andtraditionsand will havthe opportunity tmakpresentations about the cultureYou will be introduced to higher level vocabulary, newspaper anmagazine articles from Spain and Latin America. Yowill also be introduced to the works of somothmajor writers of the Spanish-speaking world. At all times, the primary focus will be to increasyour ability tcommunicate in Spanish with ease anconfidence.

 

Students will build on basivocabulary, pronunciation and grammatical structures learned inlevel 1 and level 2 to expantheir ability to communicate in Spanish. Students will listenread and interpret Spanish as it is used to communicate on a variety otopics such as personal traits and relationships, thhome and neighborhood, clothing and shopping, food and cooking, as well as its modern diversityhealth and personal hygiene, and travel, etc.  Studentwill be challenged to produce Spanish language through a varietof speaking and writing activities and projects.
