Summer Assignment 2-Summer Graphing Practice – You’ve got this!! in Google Classroom

Summer Assignment 2-Summer Graphing Practice – You’ve got this!!

Graphing is often used by scientists to show their data in a visual way that makes it easier to notice and understand trends in the observations. It will be helpful to do some preliminary graphing practice to be ready for our year. This packet is meant to be a refresher of previous skills you have practiced (in physics, chemistry and biology), as well as a preview of the type of math you can expect during the course.
You should be prepared to discuss the graphs and questions in class.  These practice questions are important in your growth in AP Biology, as 25% of the exam focuses on free response questions that require you to construct a graph, analyze data, and define parameters of experimental design.

You can do this work on a separate sheet of paper or you may print and work on it directly. Your graphs should always be labeled- you may also need to include a legend- I have provided a space for that.

Summer Assignment 1- Let’s talk Biology! TedTalk in Google Classroom

Summer Assignment 1- Let’s talk Biology! TedTalk

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world

Your task is to choose a TedTalk to explore and stir your curiosity. One catch, it must be in connection to Biology. Here is a link below to some options, but feel free to think outside the box and look for others. It is important to find a TedTalk that interests you.

As you watch your chosen talk you are to capture some thoughts and ideas on this slide (please make a copy of this slide attached) as well as reflecting on the following questions:
Why did you pick this specific talk to explore and how does it connect to Biology?
What are your thoughts on the issue being presented? How does it compare to information you have heard or read before? Does it support/refute what you know or thought you knew?
Was there anything you did not understand? What resources can you use to try and make sense of this work?
What do you think the presenter did well? What is missing from their presentation?
