Jennifer Dowd grew up in the western suburb of Burr Ridge, Illinois. History has been in her house almost her entire life. Both of her parents are retired CPS Social Studies educators. When she was little, Jennifer remembers sitting at the kitchen table with her mom helping her grade papers. Her parents were extremely devoted to their students and Jennifer knew, at a very young age, that she wanted to follow in her parents’ footsteps. Jennifer obtained her B.S. from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio with a degree in History. Upon graduation, she returned home to Chicago to further her educational studies. She received a Master’s Degree in Education from Saint Xavier University and shortly after, began her career teaching high school social studies. Jennifer has been teaching at Hancock- let’s say for a while. Throughout her career, she has taught a variety of history subjects but her passion has always been World History. Her teaching philosophy is not only to mold her students to become great thinkers academically but to be great people and future leaders. She LOVES when her former students come back for visits. It makes her so proud to see what her students have achieved once they leave the safe and secure halls of Hancock. Jennifer is married to her high school sweetheart, and together, they have 2 fabulous children. When she’s not working, she loves spending as much time with her family as possible. Life is crazy and chaotic in the Dowd home. Time together is a rarity and it is always cherished. Her hobbies include running, supporting her children in their amazing talents- her son plays soccer for a professional development academy and her daughter is a competitive dancer, and walking her darling and snuggly dog, Fenway. Go Red Sox!!!!!
