Ms. Alafnan was born and raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where she received her Bachelors of Science in Biology. After working in the medical field for several years, she received an opportunity to teach 1st and 2nd grade Sunday school. From there, she decided to change careers and go back to UIC to pursue her Masters in Education, Instructional Leadership: Science Education. 

Ms. Alafnan has been a member of the Hancock family since her time student teaching in 2016. She is currently teaching Advanced Placement Biology and Honors Biology. In past years, she has also taught Honors Physics.
In addition, she is the Hancock Service Learning Coordinator and co-sponsor of the Students for Environmental Action and Awareness Club, where she is passionate about community service and its potential to engage students in meaningful learning.
