Vanessa Puentes Hernandez is a Chicago native- having grown up in the North Lawndale neighborhood before relocating to the West Elsdon community. She spent most of her early academic life in Chicago Public Schools and has worked as an educator in CPS for over twelve years. She earned her undergraduate degree from DePaul University and taught high school English before moving into the role of Dean of Students at Hancock. After earning a Master's in Educational Leadership, she became a high school administrator in Little Village. She rejoined the Hancock community in 2016 as the Assistant Principal over Early College & Career. She lives with her husband and two children, AJ and Julie, who remind her daily that access to quality education is an opportunity that should be provided to all students in Chicago.
